About Eleanor Foerste-

1. I am a native Floridian, born in Fort Myers, graduated from UF in 1977 and 1979, working in Extension in Osceola County since 1980!
2. I want to learn more about many different plants and animals that live in Florida
3. I want to teach others about the wonderful natural systems we live in. Hoping that when people learn more about them, they will love nature like I do, respect it and help others learn, too.
4. I helped develop this statewide program with Dr. Marty Main from University of Florida.

Now it is your turn to comment and tell us about you!   If you post as anonymous, you will tell us your name in the comment.

  1. I am a native Floridian. I lived on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge during the Apollo years. Awesome experience and the main reason I wholeheartedly support the formation of the new Everglades headwaters wildlife refuge. I want to learn more about my native state and our natural areas so that I can pass it on to others esp. the next generation. The future lies in the hope of our future generations learning the joy, beauty, and understanding of nature and the natural world. We have to help others learn to love nature and our natural lands if we hope to save them.

  2. My name is Jacqueline aka Jacquie. I am from the way north, Minnesota, where the environment is much different.
I really want to further my knowledge from the wetlands course into the uplands landscape which is so beautiful!
Learning about the lands of where I live is extremely important to me, not only to understand more about what’s all around me, but also to see the magnitude of how everything is connected and to be able to teach this to others. Nature is breath taking and so misunderstood and if I can learn about it maybe I can dispel any misunderstanding/ignorance about it.
I learned about this class through Eleanor Foerste in the Wetlands Master Naturalist class.

  3. 1. I am a "semi-native" having been in Central Florida since 1960.
    2. I enjoy learning about all of nature. For example, I was pleased when my Google searches revealed that the galls on Coastalplain Staggerbush (Lyonia fruticosa) were due to a fungus (Exobasidium vaccinii). See: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38514062@N03/6306747050/in/photostream
    3. I want to learn more about how to get others interested in conserving nature.
    4. I learned of this uplands course through taking the Freshwater Wetlands module of FMNP.

  5. My name is David Sibley (sorry - not the famous bird painter!) I've lived in Florida most of my adult life; my family is from Fort Myers, but I have lived in the Melbourne area since 1978.

My hobbies are hiking and canoeing, and building and maintaining hiking trails with the Florida Trail Association, Florida Park Service, FWC, and other agencies. I'd like to learn more about the ecology of the natural communities that I and my friends spend so much time in.

Becoming an Uplands Master Naturalist will help me enjoy these areas and develop hiking trails and interpretive materials so others can better enjoy and understand them too.

I learned about the Master Naturalist Program from friends who have taken the courses.

  6. I was born and raised in Ohio but left there at 18 to travel with my military husband. His base assignments brought us to Florida 3 different times so eventually we decided to move to Florida permenantly in 2001.

Since this is now our home I want to learn more about the native plants and animals that I see every day.

As a guide at Forever Florida, I feel the information I learn from becoming an Uplands Master Naturalist may be helpful in answering some of the questions I get from the guests on my safaris. My knowledge of our environment just might spark an interest in someone else and turn then into a nature lover too. We can never have too many of those in the world.

I learned about the Master Naturalist Program from Kelly Wagner. She very generously offered Forever Florida's sponsership for me to have the opportunity to take this class.

  7. Hello Everybody! I'm Dianne, naturalized to Florida in the mid 80's. Married a Florida conch, my maternal relatives go back 4 generations in Florida. I'm interested in learning more about the natural environment we share space with. I'm hoping to do my little part to lighten our collective footprints on nature.

I found out about the Florida Master Naturalist program about a year ago when searching for information on the Florida Master Gardener program. I finally screwed up my courage to inquire about the physical requirements of the course.

And I am so very excited!
