I got to visit Big Cypress Swamp with my family when I was a teenager. Dad went hunting and we went camping. I loved the night sounds and the wind in the trees. Great time building memories.
So many to choose from! But, I will stick to uplands for this class. Bok tower with their research area on Florida's endangered scrub plants is a favorite of mine. The Lake Wales Ridge is also amazing. They have all of their endangered plants mapped out on GPS. They can take you to the exact spot of any one exact endangered plant by GPS locator. How cool is that? Of course, Merritt Island Wildlfie Refuge is a favorite because I grew up there and I know many places most people do not know to go. The plants, birds, and wildlife are incredible. Then there is Circle B Bar Reserve where you have every type of ecosystem in one location....scrub, oak hammock, marsh, lake, and with it the diversity of plants, birds, and wildlife. I told you....too many to name just one.
Some of the places my husband (Randy Snyder)and I enjoy are the sandhill at Wekiwa Springs State Park and Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park, the scrub at Rock Springs Run State Reserve and Split Oak Forest, and the flatwoods at Tosohatchee Wildlife Management area and Hal Scott Preserve.
We especially enjoy watching species interactions such as insects at flowers. We also enjoy seeing places change over time due to factors such as water and fire.
I'd have to second Jenny's post; there are SO many places in Florida!!! Anyway, one of my favorite places is either Alexander Springs or Juniper Springs. Each place holds many childhood memories, along with the slow process of psyching myself up to get into the cold water! The canoe trips were the best. Peaceful, and at Juniper, you didn't have to paddle back up stream! :)
